The Georgetown Heckler Endorses Joke Candidates Chris and Meredith for GUSA Executives

By

Recognizing the vital role that satire plays in the conduct of student affairs, the Georgetown Heckler is proud to announce that it is formally withdrawing its endorsement of the Luther-Rohan ticket and is instead endorsing the Chris and Meredith ticket for the GUSA executive 2015 election.

Redefining just how poignant political satire can be in shedding light on GUSA campaign’s deficiencies, Chris and Meredith have offered those who are tired of cookie-cutter GUSA campaigns with refreshing commentary on the consequences of unprepared candidates with aesthetically pleasing campaigns running for office.  The ambiguous and faux-sentimental nature of the “Dignity” slogan is a brilliant parody of the all too common catchy-yet-vapid slogans that permeate our campus during election season.

In an homage to Stephen Colbert’s parodic conservative character, we believe that Chris has tactfully remained in character for the entirety of the campaign.  Daniel Day Lewis would envy the extent of Chris’ devotion.   Even Colbert

broke character from time to time when it came to serious matters.  This campaign, though, has pushed the comedic boundary by sticking to its guns even through discussions of topics like sexual assault.  In true satirical form, they have gone the extra mile to make sure that no one can conceive of anything done by this ticket in the debate or written in their platform as serious or viable.

“These candidates do not have the character to lead,” Chris quipped at the Presidential Debate in reference to all other candidates that occupied the stage beside him. Chris’ over-the-top sentimentality starkly juxtaposes against the seriousness of his estranged peers; his “character” is a passionate (if eccentric) young activist, whose obsession with embodying the principle of “dignity” unravels immediately under the slightest provocation.

For example, at Monday night’s debate, Chris spent much of his time trying to undermine the earnestness of his opponents’ intentions, saying that they are purely politically-minded people who, “look past you, not at you.”  These ad-hominem jabs coming from a character that actively advertises his affability and unwillingness to engage in character assassination provides for the sort of subversive, prolific element of irony that any good satirist recognizes as the core tenant of their craft.

Tomorrow, February 19th, the Heckler urges voters to rank Chris & Meredith #1 for the poignant commentary they have provided on typical GUSA campaigns. Ya dig?
