Academy to Debut “Best Male Apology” Category in 2018 Oscars

With pressure mounting on the Oscars committee to address the recent avalanche of sexual assault allegations in Hollywood, President John Bailey announced yesterday his plan to establish a new category: Best Apology by a Man in a Position of Power.

In a press conference that took place in the late afternoon, Bailey said, “It’s about time we start using the power we have to award what should be awarded: the work that men in Hollywood have been doing since its creation, and also the work that their all-female PR teams have been doing for the past four months.”

After the Golden Globes’ controversial dress code and the white rose gesture at the Grammys, the Academy’s decision comes as a relief to many. “It was really hard at the Globes,” James Franco said when asked about the Academy’s decision. “Everyone was wearing black suits because I think most suits come in black from what I have personally seen, but I was just like, ‘well great, there goes my shot at letting everyone know I stand behind this movement,’ you know? I wore a pin, but I’ll admit it was kind of hard to see if your eyesight isn’t really good, and you can’t really ask people to have better eyesight; that’s rude.” But Franco is optimistic about the Oscars, “This decision is groundbreaking. We finally have a platform to talk about how bad we feel about? The stuff? We did?”

Insiders close to the Oscars committee say that Louis C.K. seems to be the front runner for the big night. However, some influential members are pushing for disgraced chef Mario Batali. “They love how succinct and bold his apology was,” a source says, “and the recipe he included was actually a really considerate touch. You would think that the texture of the pizza dough would overpower the delicacy of the cinnamon glaze, but it doesn’t. Yum.”
