WGTB Show Still Waiting to Award Tickets to First Caller

LEAVEY—After hours of waiting, Georgetown’s WGTB radio show “Brogasm” is still looking for the first listener to call in for the show’s concert ticket giveaway.
The show, run by freshmen Ken Williamson (MSB ’13) and Brett Richards (MSB ’13), announced the giveaway at the beginning of its 1-3 PM time slot Thursday afternoon. The pair initially offered two free tickets to a Nickelback concert on October 23 at the Verizon Center, at a face value $49.99, to the show’s 13th caller, but towards the end of the two-hour show Williamson and Richards agreed to award the tickets to the first person to call in.
“At first we weren’t sure if maybe the phone lines were too busy for anyone to get through,” said Richards, on his way to his first bathroom break of the day as Williamson continued the show’s days-long broadcast. “Then we checked and nobody was on the line and the phone was still plugged in.”
Despite the duo’s time slot ending nearly a week ago, no other hosts have come in to take the mic and broadcast their own scheduled shows. According to WGTB station manager Patrick McDavies, the other hosts have become bored and given up on their shows less than two months into the semester.
Williamson and Richards, however, remain certain their wait for a caller nearing its end.
“Dude we got like 20 people to sign up for our Facebook group ‘Kyle and Brett give you a Brogasm, and that was before we started doing all our crazy shit on the air,” Williamson said. “Maybe they’re just too intimidated to talk to the hosts of their favorite show.”
The Nickelback ticket giveaway is only the latest in a string of on-air promotions Williamson and Richards have done to try to increase their number of listeners. “Last week we totally had my boy Dave on the air. And Dave’s crazy, you know, so he was saying a bunch of crazy stuff. Probably blew everyone’s mind, the crazy shit he was saying. Bet everyone on campus was talking ‘bout that for days,” said Richards. “And then this other time we seriously played Dave Matthews Band for the whole two hours. No joke. Literally the whole fucking time. Bootlegs, live tracks, everything. ‘A Very Special Dave Matthews Brogasm.’ It was awesome.”
The success of their past promotions has convinced Williamson and Richards that a call to claim the tickets is imminent. Station statistics confirmed that the previous week’s show saw a new high of 2 listeners, only one of whom was Williamson’s mom.
“People probably think that since our show is so popular they have no chance at getting the tickets.” Williamson said as he ate his 15th-straight meal at the Subway in Hoya court. “I know the studio phone reception blows and that a lot of people are probably in class and stuff, but we’re gonna stay here ‘til somebody gets these tickets. It’s not like this is just some random shitty band too. I mean this is Nickelback. Shit’s like Creed but deeper.”
While the pair’s three-day wait has not dampened their enthusiasm for bringing their “Brogasm” to Georgetown’s listeners, their in-studio vigil has taken a physical toll. Witnesses walking by the studio’s window say that the duo hasn’t played Halo in days and that their neck-beards are coming dangerously close to reaching full-beard status.
“Look, I’m doing hand calisthenics so I’ll be able to pick up the phone in one-second flat when one of you guys calls in,” a weary-voiced but eager Richards announced on the show late Tuesday night. “Wait, you can’t see me. I’m on the radio.”
As of press time, Williamson and Richards still have yet to announce the actual phone number to call to win the tickets.
