RED SQUARE- At a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Erin Forthe (SFS ʼ15) broke ground for Georgetownʼs newest student group – The Selective Club.
“Weʼre filling an important gap in Georgetownʼs rich social environment,” said Forthe at a press conference. “Who wouldnʼt want to be a part of it?”
Forthe went on to stress how impressive the club would look on a resume and to prospective employers and the social capital that its membership would bring on campus.
At the conclusion of the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Red Square, Forthe and the Assistant General Manager of Technology Relations Administration, Heather Jayden (NHS ʼ14), unveiled the online application and announced the dates for the clubʼs spring and fall hiring cycle.
With the final stamp of university approval secured early last week, Facebook albums showing the groupʼs tight-knit nature were released in tandem with a grassroots, but not too desperate sounding marketing campaign.
“Man, Iʼve heard those people in the Selective Club are stuck-up assholes,” said Daniel McGarry (NHS ʼ16). “Unless they accept my application next week, in which case I will redact that statement and call them my closest family on campus.”
Social analyst suggest that the Selective Club runs the risk of an image problem if it continues to reject so many people. Too many rejections can create resentment according to some. “When people get rejected from things- people are sad,” said Social Expert Mark Mersch at the Institute of College Clubs Research. “Itʼs bad.”
At press time, internal debates were still unresolved about whether anyone will actually be admitted into the Selective Club.
