University Begins Offering Online Dating Service for Pre-Med Students to Study Together

By

THE INTERNET — In an effort to increase social activity amongst pre-med students, the Center for Student Engagement and the Georgetown University Pre-Med Society have partnered to create a dating service for pre-med students called Covalent Bonds.

Senior Jack Crockett (COL ’15), creator and CEO of the service, described it as “a way to get some chemistry with that cute guy or girl in your chemistry class.”

Two students "getting a little frisky" studying a-sexual reproduction.

Crockett originally formulated the idea as a way for students to go on actual dates with each other, but quickly realized that all the dates devolved into studying.

Crockett reminisced on the first trial run: “it started out as a nice evening at Farmers, Fishers, and Bakers, but once they got each other’s names and hometowns the students couldn’t think of anything to talk about.  After a two minute pause that lasted longer than a biological epoch, the students lit up when one mentioned an assignment from their molecular biology class.”

“Within minutes they had taken out their books and I knew what the future of Covalent Bonds was.”

The service today has over 300 members, whose profiles display interests including “reading a good textbook,” “Kevorkian philosophy,” and “long walks through Lau’s physics section on a Saturday night.”

Participants in the Covalent Bond program could not be reached for comment because they looked like they were really busy studying on Lau 5.

Crockett is looking to expand the service to include Math majors, athletes, and people who are in too many clubs.

“If you’re always talking about how busy you are, we’re always busy trying to find you a match” Crockett concluded.
