Supermodel Industry Networking Event Sets Career Center Attendance Record

By

Supermodel NetworkingCAWLEY CAREER CENTER – A networking event held last night with professionals from the international supermodel industry shattered all previous attendance records at Georgetown’s career center.

While the career center regularly offers networking events for the medical, legal, and finance industries, as well as the government and nonprofit sectors, last night’s event represented the first such offering for the supermodel industry. The evening was divided into two parts: a panel discussion featuring such famous models as Adriana Lima, Doutzen Kroes, and Tyra Banks, followed by a cocktail-and-networking reception.

Well in excess of 500 students turned out for the event, baffling career center employees.

“We were not expecting anywhere near this level of interest,” career center events coordinator Melissa Martell confessed. “Usually we don’t expect to get any more than a few dozen over-eager juniors and desperate seniors. We’re still trying to wrap our heads around it all. Once we can figure out what we did right this time, we hope we can replicate it for future networking events.”

According to the career center, the decision to put on a supermodel industry event was a part of its ongoing endeavor to provide programs for women.

“In the past, the Cawley Career Center has received ample praise for its female networking events and women-in-corporate-leadership seminars,” said Assistant Director Patricia Devereux. “However, we acknowledge that not every woman aspires to be [Yahoo CEO] Marissa Mayer, and so we decided to put a modeling event on the calendar.”

The career center was nevertheless flummoxed when the vast majority of attendees turned out to be male. Eyewitness reports indicated that the throng of young men waiting to get into the career center stretched as far as the Leavey Center Cosi.

“We are still a bit perplexed about why there was such a high male turnout,” Devereux said. “But you could tell they had a high level of interest in what our panelists had to say. Every guy in the room had his eyes glued to Gisele Bündchen when she discussed her work as a UN Goodwill Ambassador.”

The evening was not without incident, however. One freshman fainted when Miranda Kerr said hello to him, prompting GERMS to be called. In another instance, the career center asked that a sophomore please leave.

“He couldn’t stop dribbling his drink when he tried to speak to Candice Swanepoel,” Devereux explained. “It was staining our new carpet.”

Critics of the networking event have claimed that students turned out only to ogle the models. Many of the male attendees vehemently deny this.

“I for one learned a lot at the networking event,” said Ted Grimsby (COL ’18), “Kate Upton gave a fascinating presentation about using social media to market your own personal brand. She discussed how to use YouTube to appeal to a fan base and…well, I don’t really remember what she said next because she started doing the cat daddy, but you get my point.”

Overall, the networking event received rave reviews from students in attendance, although many expressed disappointment to learn that the models were not handing out business cards with their phone numbers.
