New Club **** for ****** Stirs Controversy

By

The Georgetown community has been rocked by the controversial emergence of the new club, **** for ******. The organization’s mission statement reads that it is committed to ensuring that all **** have access to ******.  The campus has restricted access to ****** in the past but seems to be relenting given the pressure from a growing number of ****.  Both sides in the emotionally-sensitive debate on **** right to ****** have taken to Red Square to voice their opinion. Those in support, like Casey Irons (SFS ’15) say the time for full recognition has come: “The Georgetown campus has denied our basic rights for too long. We’re supposed to be an open community but how can we really say that if **** cannot ******?” Others, like Aaron Johnson (COL ’14) cited Georgetown’s Jesuit heritage in his opposition: “I understand why people think this should be changed, but like it or not, we go to a Catholic school. **** should be able to do whatever they want but ****** goes against our Jesuit identity.” All day pro-****** and anti-******protestors were out in force, waving signs like “Keep the government out of my ******” or, in opposition, “****** should only be between an **** and another **** of the same and/or different ****.” Alex Martinez (MSB ’16) observed the controversy for most of the day and grew increasingly exasperated: “I’m sorry but people here are way too touchy and P.C. Sometimes I just want to tell people, look, I’m a **** and I’d like to be able to ******. Is that too much to ask?”
