Girl Tells Everyone She “Loves It Here” 30 Minutes After Parents Leave

By

DARNALL — Approximately 30 minutes after hugging her parents goodbye in the Darnall
Hall lobby, Freshman Mackenzie Koch (MSB ʼ18) told an assembled room of reporters,
her new roommate, friends from high school, and passer-bys she managed to strike up
conversation with that she is “absolutely and hopelessly in love with Georgetown.”

While opening her first box to begin unpacking her room she described herself as “just
feeling so liberated and at home right now” sitting in an empty and bare dormitory room.

Koch, who at this point had not seen 73% of her floor, began texting and snapchatting
high school friends pictures of anything that said “Georgetown” with the caption “Soo in
love with college!!! :)”

Before undergoing any substantive unpacking, Koch paused her efforts to intercept her
roommate Margaret Chancery (SFS ʼ18) in the hall to begin introductions immediately
followed by social media posts

At press time Kochʼs filtered post with the caption “Roomiez and Bestiez <3” had six likes.

Koch also took time to reflect on her first thirty minutes in college calling it “a whirlwind
of personal growth.”

“I personally just feel so inspired by the story of our founder John Caroline,” she said on
her rationale behind coming to Georgetown from the floor of her still unpacked room.

“Also the whole academia scene stuff and it was listed as the #2 school with the hottest
people.”

As Koch continued her tour of Darnall Two, she began to pronounce her affinity for
school and college in even more unequivocal terms.

“This is such a Hoya Saxa moment,” said Koch pointing to a picture of the bulldog on a
DPS leaflet in the common room.

While muttering “this is so college” she opened and shut the refrigerator door several
times in the common room.

Koch saved introductions with other floor mates for the last part of her first hour on the
floor.

Greeted with several “so youʼre the girl who posts so much on our GAAP group”, Koch
responded to each resident as if they were an old friend.

“God, we Darnall Two girls just stick together. Weʼve got each otherʼs backs,” she said
after meeting another freshman girl on the floor.

“This college thing is so fun,” she said. “I even heard thereʼs going to be a party on
campus tonight!”
