LAU 2 — The world has been a surprising place for Martin Johnson (COL ’04) following his recent de-thawing from the large block of ice he had been trapped in since he began his abroad in the future program at Georgetown in August 2003.
What he claims, however, is the most exciting part of the abroad program is the “sweet” selection of DVD’s available on the second floor of Lauinger Library.
“It’s like a free Blockbuster right on campus! Wicked!” stated the junior, who is as of this writing still unaware of Netflix, Facebook, the election of President Obama, or the death of actor Michael Clarke Duncan.
Johnson went on to state that he was “totally stoked” to finally be able to see Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, which he was in the process of carrying back to his Harbin dorm to watch on his Zenith DVD player. Johnson’s only concern was the troubling lack of VHS tapes, a worry soon overshadowed by the excitement of his discovery of a new Indiana Jones film.
At the end of his discussion with reporters, Johnson inquired about the state of his old pet ferret and the nature of the app Tinder. Reporters declined to comment on both, at which point the freshman returned to being disappointed by the 2nd and 3rd Matrix films.
When asked to comment on the DVD selection, Jebediah Rutherford (SFS ’66), an exchange student from 1865 studying abroad in the same program, stated that while he was excited about the DVD collection he was “verily confounded, about our departed president Lincoln.”
