HEALY HALL — After an increasing number of students have disrespected the school seal by walking on it, the Georgetown Board of Directors met recently to discuss a more reputable replacement to the archaic symbol.
While “nothing is certain yet,” the Vineyard Vines Whale has arisen many times in the conversation as a more identifiable symbol to the students of this school.
“If there were an emblem that students worship more religiously than their school crest,” says Georgetown President John de Giogia, “it is that pink mammal on their hats and flip flops.”
Some students have raised concern saying that, “This could negatively effect our image as a University,” and that people may think Georgetown is “too preppy,” but most have responded that this will in “no way” change the perception of our school.
Along with a change in seal would come a change in tradition. The legend once went that those who stepped on the seal would not graduate, but the new institution will be those that step on the seal will develop a fashion sense equivalent to individuals who where cargo shorts and socks with sandals.
Some board member even proposed procuring a whale from the Washington National Zoo to replace Jack the Bulldog as our school mascot, but that idea is still in the works.
The board will be voting this Friday on whether or not to adopt the Whale to the Hoya family, but it looks as if it is going to pass.
“I think John Carroll would have been a Vineyard Vine’s kind of guy,” said one of the board members, “he would have wanted this.”
