Student Excited to Read Buzzfeed in Front of Madeleine Albright Someday

By

WHITE-GRAVENOR — Following pre-registration, Senior Diana Sims (SFS, ’15) says she “can’t wait” for the opportunity to read Buzzfeed during a class taught by the Distinguished Professor of Diplomacy and former Secretary of State, Madeleine K. Albright.

“I’m a senior, and I’ve been trying to get into this course for a while now,” said Sims.  “I think this will finally be my semester.”

Students past and present have raved about the "unique high speed wifi" opportunities in a class with Madeleine Albright.

For years, Albright’s class, “Decision Making in a Global Context”, has given students the privilege to consume popular journalism while a former Secretary of State speaks out loud only feet away.

“I especially remember the time she gave her first-hand account of when she carefully directed U.S. foreign policy during the Kosovo War,” said Mark Wright (SFS, ‘16), who took the course last year.  “It provided excellent, insightful, background noise for me to focus on ‘The 17 Reasons Why Grey’s Anatomy Wins Television’”.

The course comes with other, less obvious perks. “This one time, I was looking at a .gif of Monica from Friends yelling at Rachel, and it would sort of look like her mouth synchronized with what Secretary Albright was saying,” said Wright.  “That was pretty funny.”

It has been reported, though, that Albright has modified her curriculum over the past few years following the rise of laptop use in class.

“I can say literally anything, and they won’t even hear me,” said Albright.  “Last year I spent an entire lecture talking about the time I broke Colin Powell’s nose in a bar fight back in ’96, and they still thanked me before they left.”

Sims plans on entering the U.S. Foreign Service following graduation.
