NEW BEDFORD, MA — Returning to her Massachusetts home Sunday night after spending the previous five months studying abroad in Paris, France, Junior Celia Alves (SFS ’16) told reporters that she could not have been more happy to be back in her “safe space.” “Studying abroad in Paris was eye opening and a cultural whirlwind just like I thought it would be, but it’s nice to finally be back home,” said Alves about her experience in one of the most commercialized and international cities in the world which she never explored without less than 3 other Georgetown students. Alves went on to describe what a remarkable experience she had exploring Europe with dozens of other Georgetown students, staying in hostels filled almost entirely with Americans and how incredible it was to interact with locals who only spoke English as their second language.  “Since I’ve come to Georgetown I haven’t felt like I’ve just gotten away from everything like that before,” said Alves about her time spent on a continent where she could have contacted any of her friends and family via her phone or computer instantaneously. Alves was last spotted uploading an album to Facebook titled “Foreign Adventures” in which every picture contained at least one other tourist family in the background.
