LEAVEY CENTER – As GUSA election season approaches, juniors preparing their runs for office have begun to separate themselves from the current GUSA leadership: Trevor Tezel and Omika Jikaria. However, because few people are actually informed of GUSA activities, candidates have to go to great lengths to separate themselves from the incumbents.
In one recent instance, GUSA hopeful and current Chair of the College Democrats, Adam Joseph (COL ‘16), was seen sprinting across Red Square as Trevor approached from the ICC. “I really hope Adam decides to go for president,” said an onlooker tabling in Red Square. “He really seems like he will make a lot of much needed changes on campus.”
One future GUSA candidate who has a class with Omika has taken a different approach.“My strategy so far has been to give a different response to every question Omika answers,” stated Jared Kohler (SFS ‘16) in an interview with The Heckler. “This way everyone knows that I will leave a distinct impression on the Georgetown community.”
Unfortunately, these efforts have gone largely unnoticed by most of the philosophy lecture. Classmates still awake were primarily confused why people were answering questions in the first place.
As the run up to the election continues, we will likely see more future politicians desperately trying to create their own distinct image.
At press time, one ambitious junior was seen attempting to remove any history of GUSA election profile pictures from his Facebook account.
