Freshman Crosses Line Making Fun of Todd Olson, VP of Student Affairs

By

HEALY FAMILY STUDENT CENTER – An undergraduate “hangout session” was brought to an abrupt, awkward halt when sophomore Julian Hatrnel (SFS ’17) made a “joke” alluding to the alleged incompetency of Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Todd Olson.

The “squad” was just kicking back and chilling on the new HFSC patio, which was designed with fostering student community in mind, when Hartnel made the tasteless quip during an otherwise healthy discussion about their plans for the Summer. Senior Deanna Bloom (COL ’15) made a comment about her off-campus landlord making her pay an additional fee for her parking space because of the size of her car. Hartnel responded, “Ha! Sounds like a classic Todd Olson policy.”Screen Shot 2015-03-26 at 5.44.09 PM

The group fell silent and looked at Hartnel with disgust. Clearly, Dr. Olson would never institute a policy that students felt was arbitrary or unfair. Hartnel’s peers quickly corrected their misinformed friend.

“That’s not funny,” said sophomore Jordan Wolfe (SFS ’17). “Dr. Olson works really hard to make sure we have the best arrangements possible for a comfortable, fulfilling, and memorable time here at Georgetown. Dissing that is whack, man.”

Freshman Kerry Allen echoed Wolfe’s sentiment. “It’s not chill at all for you to ‘throw shade’ like that, Julian,” Allen said. “How would you like it if all you ever wanted to do was help, but instead were constantly the target of baseless criticism?”

Eventually, Hartnel came to his senses and apologized.

“Sorry, guys, my joke was totally bogus,” he told his friends. “It was a mistake to put Dr. Olson ‘on blast’ like that. Next time, I’ll consider the sacrifices the administration makes, and the hard choices they confront on a day to day basis.”

At press time, Hartnel was seen giving meaningful, constructive feedback about his dining experience through the official Campus Dish website.
