HARBIN HALL – Following months of “constructive dialogue” between Georgetown University and the surrounding neighborhood, Vice President of Planning and Facilities Robin Morey announced Friday that the university plans to eliminate Georgetown-bound GUTS bus routes by the end of the fall semester. The plan seeks to strand roughly 2,000 students in areas of DC from which they are unlikely to return to Georgetown as mandated by the 2010 Campus Plan. “This is great news for the university and the neighborhood. Students leave on GUTS buses and they never come back,” Morey stated as a neighborhood leader hovered above him, tugging on nylon strings attached to Morey’s mouth and limbs. “Fewer students means less water waste and less food waste, so we increase our sustainability. Students tend to disrupt neighbors in their historic homes, so I’m looking forward to not having to deal with as many complaints as I’m used to.” Morey added that the elimination of Georgetown-bound routes is a positive step toward the shared 2018 campus-planning goal of fading out the university entirely.
