Landlord Pretty Sure House Wasn’t On Fire When Lease Was Signed

Prospect Street – Local landlord Thomas Wilkinson noted that something seemed “pretty off” with his property at 3356 Prospect St. as multiple fire crews worked to extinguish a raging fire that had engulfed the townhouse.

“I can’t be 100% sure, but I’ve got this nagging feeling that the house was not on fire when I leased it to those kids,” said Wilkinson, who noticed the house engulfed in flames on a routine visit.  “It definitely seems a lot warmer than it did last time I was here.”

Wilkinson flipped through the rental agreement to see if he could find the source of his suspicions. He also noted that upon re-reading the paperwork, nowhere is the house described as a towering inferno, something he thinks would have probably come up.

Nevertheless, the home’s current residents insist it is the same condition it has been in since the lease was signed.  The landlord and tenants are split on the issue.

“The house was just as on fire the day we moved in as it is now.  We should definitely get our security deposit back,” said current resident Darren Wolfe (NHS ’16), who was brushing burning embers off of his left arm while speaking to a reporter.  “Also the garbage disposal was broken.”

At press time, Wilkinson was trying to calculate the potential heating bill if the residents continued to keep the house at 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the winter
