FROM THE VAULT: (2013) Excitement Grows over Impending Premiere of First Percy Jackson Film

By

Move over, Harry Potter and Twilight! Lines stretch around movie theaters all across the country this week as Half-Bloods line up in anticipation of the premiere of Percy Jackson & The Olympians. The film is set to release this Thursday, August 7, 2013.

We know that this five-part film series will be the new Harry Potter (but better!), so we are prepared to dedicate more than half of our entertainment budget to Percy Jackson & The Olympians coverage for the next four years. We want Percy Jackson fans to know we’re here to give them the content they want, and we’re willing to take the gamble because we know the hype won’t die!

We sent literally every single one of our field reporters to theaters across the country to interview fans. Just like all of you both in the US and all over the world (literally everywhere!), we’re buying into the half-blood hype! We interviewed a few fans waiting in line for the film:

Tumblr user d4ughter0fAthena in Silver Springs, MD said, “I’m so excited to see Annabeth! You know, she kind of looks like me because I have blonde hair just like she does in the book, and I’m also a daughter of Athena so like it’s probably because of our family line.” D4aughter0fAthena declined to share her real name, saying we could refer to her in this article as Chase. “Like Annabeth Chase. Like in the book. I’m gonna change my name when I turn 18 because my fake mom, not Athena of course, won’t let me change it yet. But everyone calls me that, I swear.” Thanks, Chase!

Twitter user groversbetterhalf also spoke to us at a theater in Torrey, UT (pop. 180): “I’ve been waiting in line for a week! I’m sure Chiron is pissed that I snuck out of Camp Half-Blood to be here, but I’m just so excited to see every single detail of this perfect book come to life on screen. How could you now be?! I’ve read it fifteen times, so I’ll know if something’s off. But Rick Riordan would never do that to me, he’s a demigod and I totally trust him to include every single thing.” Groversbetterhalf wore an orange Camp Half-Blood t-shirt to match the iconic orange shirts that the characters wear in the novel and will definitely be wearing in the film. Where can we get one?!

Tumblr user tys0nthecycl0ps from Tarpon Springs, FL (pop. 24) got us excited for the rest of the series. He said, “I’m excited for this one, but oh boy! I can’t wait for the fourth movie! Battle of the Labyrinth is going to be the best one of them all!” It’s always great to remember that we have so many years of this fantastic series ahead of us! We hope that you all have your blue snacks ready and your swords sharpened the release of Percy Jackson & The Olympians as we are. See you at Camp Half-Blood!
