Turtles All The Way Down: Hilltop Consultants To Assist Nonprofit That Aids Consulting Firms That Help Nonprofits

By

It’s an age-old question, a question that no one has yet found a suitable answer for: What do consulting firms even do? If you have ever pondered this, you are not alone, as this seems to be a common point of confusion. To help Georgetown students get a better understanding of what the consulting firms on campus actually do, I sat down with a representative of Hilltop Consultants, Jake (MSB ‘23) (not that Jake, the other one. No, not that one either), to get a better understanding of what the competitive world of consulting entails.

L. K. Pottrick:  Hi Jake, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.

Jake: My pleasure, we here at Hilltop Consultants are huge fans of The Heckler!

L. K. Pottrick: I’m glad to hear it! Now tell me, what is it you do here at Hilltop Consultants?

Jake: Well it’s really about making an impact, at the end of the day

L. K. Pottrick: Uh huh. Well, a lot of things are. How do you specifically make an impact by consulting?

Jake: We provide deliverables to nonprofits to optimize their potential.

L. K. Pottrick: Well that’s… vague. But it sounds promising! Which nonprofits are you helping?

Jake: I am very excited about the organization we have chosen to partner with this year. They are called Consultants for Change 501(c)3

L. K. Pottrick: Fascinating, and what does ‘Consultants for Change’ do?

Jake:  They provide valuable assistance and funds for consulting firms.

L.K. Pottrick: … so you are helping other consultants?

Jake: No, we are helping a nonprofit. That helps consultants.

L. K. Pottrick: Ok, sure, but then what do those consultants do?

Jake: Well, I’d say it’s all about making an impact at the end of the day.

L.K. Pottrick: Right right, you mentioned that.  But how do they make an impact? Like the consultants that are helped by the nonprofit you assist. What tangible impact does that make?

Jake: Oh sure. Well, after the nonprofits provide their assistance and funds, the consultants provide deliverables to nonprofits to optimize their potential.

L. K. Pottrick: Yeah, alright, but what does that even mean? Not gonna lie, I’m not quite sure I know what a deliverable is, and how do they, what did you say? “Optimize potential”?  Like what is any of this even about?

Jake: I believe that, at the end of the day, it’s about making an impact.
