Liberation and Modernity! Why One Woman Left Her Boyfriend For The Blommer Science Library

By

“I just knew it was time for a change,” wrote Sarah McShann-Walpole (NHS ‘23) in an unsolicited email to The Heckler. McShann-Walpole reached out to us in hopes that we could share and inform the Georgetown community about her norm-defying relationship and the importance of pursuing what makes you happy. We felt obligated to share this beautiful message of unconventional love.

“My boyfriend Ryan was a sweet guy, but I felt like I was being held back by jealousy, insecurity, trying to be the right kind of girlfriend—stupid shit that got to my head. But with The Blommer Science Library, things are different.”

“I spend a lot more time with him, but I also feel free to leave and spend time elsewhere and he isn’t insecure about it at all. He actually really just listens to me, like he’s really quiet, but it’s because he is shy and so supportive <3. When you’re dating a library, you just need to get used to tons of different people coming and going, you know, checking things out, spending a lot of time with him, all of that. He’s cool, but not too cool, right, like he isn’t the main library on campus, and in fact a lot of people don’t know him so he definitely has this mystique. Plus Reiss has a nice chlorine-y smell that makes me think of YMCA summer camp, so I like spending time there.”

“Anyways, what I’m saying is: don’t let people’s conventions and expectations hold you back from the love you deserve! You CAN date classrooms, study rooms, break rooms, auditoriums, hallways, even buildings or annexes, and of course, libraries. I’ve actually heard The Bioethics Library is back on the market!”
