Joint efforts by the Georgetown University Departments of Slavic Languages, Classics, and Small Program Languages have made article translation possible. An English version can be found below.
Darnall residents and other north-campus denizens like Amelia Santos (COL ‘25) have been able to watch the progress made on the new Medstar medical pavilion that’s been under construction for as long as anyone can remember. In fact, the project has been impossible to ignore – “The noise never stops, and the trucks are everywhere. They keep adding cranes, and the building has gotten…weirdly tall” said Santos, “Like, almost too tall.”
Suddenly, chaos. “I was supervising the addition of another floor at the Medstar site when suddenly, the sky got dark and this loud voice that came from above said, ‘Behold, thou hast built a tower reaching to the heavens, therefore let us go forth and confound the languages of man!’” Evan Weber, foreman, told The Heckler. “I mean, I don’t even know what language I’m speaking right now!”
The theology department, who immediately recognized the parallels of the day’s events to the Biblical story of the Tower of Babel, responded to the devastating crisis with intense prayer and a veritable zoo of animal sacrifices. One can only hope that the number of rats the construction site has drawn to campus can help fuel these attempts to win back the favor of an Old Testament God and have everyone speaking the right languages again.
“En edes tiedä, mitä kieltä puhun juuri nyt!”
