NEW YORK CITY, NY – Citing off-the-charts ratings and a quickly growing fan base, Fox Headquarters announced Thursday that it would be renewing Republican Debates for a second season beginning in December of 2016.

Executive producer Robert MacDougal spoke to the press and tried to explain the show’s unparalleled success.

“I think the reason that people have taken so fondly to ‘Republican Debates’ is because it brings back a time in television’s history when it united people” explained MacDougal. “A time when families would gather together in the living room after dinner to watch fantastical characters come to life before their eyes.”

Fans everywhere rejoiced at the announcement and the chance to see their favorites return for a second season.

“The second season is really when it starts to get juicy. They can start adding in new characters and bringing back old ones. It’s also when romances between characters start developing” said Madison Blackwell, who added that she was still holding out hope for a Carson – Fiorina relationship.

MacDougal noted that Republican Debates has sparked several spinoffs, including the far less successful Democratic Debates. “The Democratic spinoff just hasn’t been able to provide the same amount of character and plot diversity. Republican Debates has something for everyone.”

While the 12 episode first season has been so successful that Fox often runs the same episode twice in a row, the series has run into some problems. Several of the show’s actors have left, causing a challenge for the show’s writers.

“The first time one of the actors left the show we stopped including his character pretty abruptly. It’s gonna take nothing short of a miracle to write him back into the plot” said head writer Mitch DuBois shaking his head. “We’ve since learned our lesson that just because an actor leaves for a single episode doesn’t mean they won’t come back.”

The new season, which premieres February 13th, promises to combine some of the old plot lines from season one with fresh material.

At press time, MacDougal even hinted that season two might finally provide some clues as to what Marco Rubio’s stance on immigration is.
