Cara Montez-Jones (SFS ‘23) is KILLING it right now with her political takes! In response to the news of the horrific Texas abortion ban, as she has for many causes before, Cara took to her Instagram story to decry the move and the people that made it. Cara, a Connecticut native, had lots to share. 

Some of the best quotes from Cara’s powerful tirade included: “Fuck Texas; what a backward place. But this is what you get for voting those people in” and “we hate to see red states getting what’s coming to them :/“ and “this is why you’ll never see me in the South; they couldn’t handle a woman who speaks her mind!” Cara! Ally alert! 

After all of the slides, Cara made an appearance on Instagram Live, where she could more directly give her downright revolutionary thoughts to the masses. Sporting a disheveled look that emphasized just how upset she was, she mused that “the fact that many Southern states restrict abortion access, affecting more women of color and poor women than anywhere else in the country, and consistently fail citizens on storm preparedness, Covid response, education, carceral systems, social services and more is definitely the fault of the Backwards South and its Backwards Residents and definitely not the result of systematic and racialized oppression and voter suppression that historically benefited all dominant groups and power holders across the country by keeping people from survival, mobility, and happiness because of their race, gender, and economic status.” 

Well, we here at the Heckler applaud Cara for standing up for what’s right. Let those backward Southern states know what’s up! Of course an unconstitutional law will only impact the state it’s passed in and never have nationwide repercussions and come to affect your rights and bodily autonomy, so we’re really impressed at your activism! You are so brave girl, keep going off!
