After a failed presidential campaign and upset defeat in New York City, Andrew Yang may have suffered his most embarrassing loss right here on the Hilltop. After GUSA election results were released late Saturday night, many Yang Gang supporters were shocked to find that Mr. Yang did not crack the threshold to win a first-year senate seat, falling to 13th place.
This result was shocking for many. Running on an innovative platform that included distributing UBF (Universal Basic Flex) for all students and tackling the threat of automated translation sites in language classrooms, Yang seemed to replicate the enthusiasm that brought him to prominence on the national stage. Yang earned endorsements from both The Corp and GUASFCU, shooting him up in preliminary polls. Said one first-year supporter, “While I’m not sure how or why Andrew Yang is a student at Georgetown, I’d love to see his policy ideas in action!”
Yet, Mr. Yang’s campaign failed to generate support amongst the student body at large. Chief among the concerns of skeptics was the question of Yang’s commitment to Hoya culture and Jesuit values. One notable junior voiced his concerns on Twitter, saying “Yang graduated from Brown in 1996 and then went to Columbia Law. There’s no way we are letting his Ivy League-ass pollute this university.” Similar concerns about Yang have been voiced in the past, particularly in regards to his status as a native New Yorker.
After his embarrassing performance, what’s next for Yang remains uncertain. However, the Heckler’s investigative team has uncovered a lead from an anonymous source: Yang may be taking his campaign to the student council elections of Twin Falls High School in Sioux City, Iowa. Regardless, Yang is as driven as ever, saying in his concession speech that “The Yang Gang will keep bangin’ wherever we can!”
