New York Times Opinion: This Time We Definitely Have the Right Take About Transgender Issues

By

Wait, don’t click the back button! We, the New York Times Opinion Section, know we’ve messed up in the past, but this time we definitely have the right take about transgender issues.

Yes, this year we said that a cisgender woman’s fear of being criticized by trans people on Twitter were just as important as trans people being systematically discriminated against by the state and murdered by bigots. But it really hurts our feelings when people politely tell us that we’re centering ourselves!

Sure, we’ve cracked jokes about the uselessness of gender studies programs, even though we’re also not doing our research about what being trans or nonbinary actually is. We don’t really care about the social and cultural nuances that extend beyond what’s happening in your pants.

We’ve learned from our mistakes, and we’d like to benevolently extend our apologies to the trans community. Now for our new hot take about transgender issues, which will definitely remedy our past missteps.

Trans people should all become Harry Potter fans. We at the New York Times really enjoy the series, and think that the series has appeal for trans children and trans adults alike!
